Bluejays Take Game Two Of The Series In Close 2-0 Win Over Wildcats

Box Score OMAHA, Neb. – In the second game of the series between Villanova and Creighton, the Bluejays came away with another win in a close 2-0 battle. A low scoring game with some quality pitching on both sides only allowed for three total runs on both sides during the competition on Friday night at Charles Schwab Field.

All three Wildcat pitchers had a strong performance on the night. Junior Cade Udell started on on the bump and pitched for 3.0 innings and struck out four. Udell gave up two hits and two runs before getting retired by senior Chic DeGaetano. DeGaetano tossed for 4.0 innings and had one punchout while not allowing a single hit or run in while on the hill. Graduate pitcher Zach Camp closed things out for the 'Cats by fanning two in the bottom of the eighth.

Creighton started things off in the bottom of the first when Nolan Sailors crushed a triple to left center field to score Andrew Meggs from first. The Bluejays only managed the one run in the inning.

Neither team scored in the second inning. In the top of the third Jack O'Reilly smashed a bomb that was about to head out to the right field fence when Jack Grace jumped up reaching over the wall to rob the homer and keep the Wildcats from tie the game up. In the bottom of the innings Grace hit an RBI single to add another run to the Bluejays lead 2-0.

Neither team managed a run to be scored for the rest of the competition with the Wildcats leaving a total of two men on and the Bluejays leaving seven on. Credit for the low scoring night goes to both teams pitching staffs battling it out on the field to keep each other at bay. DeGaetano came in clutch on Villanova's side by keeping things calm in the middle stretch of the game with help from the Wildcat defense. Creighton's winning pitcher Dominic Cancellieri gave the Wildcats a very difficult time at the plate for the 8.0 innings he was on the hill. Cancellieri struckout a career high of 12 Wildcats by the end of his stint on the mound.

The early lead for the Bluejays won out the night 2-0 over the Wildcats to claim game two of the series.

UP NEXT: The 'Cats return to action tomorrow April 8 for the series finale at Creighton. First pitch is set for 12 pm CST/1 pm EST.
