VILLANOVA, Pa. – Villanova volleyball head coach Josh Steinbach announced the team's 2023 schedule on Monday, with VU set to play 31 games on the year.
The Wildcats will compete in four tournaments to begin the season before taking part in an 18-game BIG EAST schedule.
The 'Cats will travel to the state of Michigan to begin the year by participating in a tournament at Western Michigan, taking on Northern Iowa, Milwaukee and the host Broncos.
The opening month also contains three single games, with the home opener coming on August 30th against Maryland-Eastern Shore. Other solo foes include Penn (Sept. 6) and Lehigh (Sept. 13).
VU will host two home events this year, the first being the Catholic Challenge from September 1-3 against Notre Dame and Santa Clara. The Villanova Classic will take place at the Jake Nevin Field House on Sept. 15-16, with Sacred Heart and Saint Francis on the docket.
Villanova's other non-conference matchups will be held at Delaware, with contests against the Blue Hens and Rider on tap for the second week of September.
The Wildcats will kick off BIG EAST play in the Midwest, visiting 2022 conference regular season co-champion Marquette and DePaul to start the BIG EAST slate.
The conference home opener pits VU against the Xavier Musketeers on Sept. 29, and three more home matchups come in succession with Butler, UConn and Providence all coming to Pennsylvania.
Villanova travels to Georgetown and 2022 NCAA participant Creighton during the same week in mid-October, then returns to Nevin for four straight home contests against Seton Hall, St. John's, Georgetown and Creighton.
Trips to Butler and Xavier follow that two-week homestand, but it's back to Nevin for a matchup with DePaul before the home finale on Nov. 11 against 2022 Sweet 16 participant Marquette.
The 'Cats finish out their regular season campaign in New England, visiting Providence on Nov. 17 before wrapping up the BIG EAST slate in Storrs against Connecticut.
This year's BIG EAST Tournament will be hosted at Marquette from Nov. 22-25.
