PHILADELPHIA, Pa. - Villanova participated in the Cissie Leary Invitational at UPenn this past weekend. The Cats played 17 doubles matches and 19 single matches.
The Wildcats ended the weekend with five double wins against Saint Joseph's.
Lauren Monti and
Maggie Gehrig won their battle against Tang and Melfi with a score of 8-0. Wildcats duo
Maddie Hills and
Olivia Corcoran overcame Ocasio and Brooke 8-4. Monti also paired with
Valieriia Kornieva to win with fight against Tracey and Perez 8-4. Hills then partnered with
Savie Seebald to win 8-7 against Tang and Melfi. Duo Tackett and Ocasio also fell short to Wildcat pair
Chloe Floyd and Corcoran in an 8-5 loss.
Gehrig and Corcoran also overcame a duo from Delaware, Kack and Svendsen, 8-7.
The Wildcats also ended up with nine total single wins for the weekend, including three against UConn. Sophie Edwards come out ahead of Wright 6-3,6-3. While Corcoran competed against Constantinou and won 4-6, 6-4, 7-6. Gehrig won a 6-3,6-4 battle with Petri-Bere.
Corcoran also came out on top of Delaware's Akselrod with a score of 6-3, 6-3. Kornieva faced Delaware's Dollens with a score of 6-5, 6-2, making that another win for the Wildcats.
Wrapping up the weekend we had four more single wins against Temple. Corcoran went face to face against Martinez with a score of 4-6,6-2,10-6. While Hills matched up with Andreoni, beating her 6-4, 6-4. Kornieva defeated Aulana 2-6,6-4,10-6.
Sophia Edwards was victorious over Ritcher with a score of 6-0, 6-1.
The Wildcats will be back on the court on October 19-20th At Lehigh in Bethlehem, Pa.
