De Ruijter Named First-Team All-BIG EAST, Three Wildcats Earn Second-Team Honors

Ava Borkowski, Gemma Lysaght and Meghan Mitchell named second-team all-conference

NEW YORK – Fifth Year forward Sabine de Ruijter has been named to the All-BIG EAST First Team, the conference announced Wednesday (Nov. 6). Ava Borkowski, Gemma Lysaght and Meghan Mitchell were named to the All-BIG EAST Second Team.

This is de Ruijter's first time earning first-team all-conference honors after being named to the second team each of the first four years of her career. Mitchell, another fifth year forward, lands on the second team for the third time in her career and was also named to the All-BIG EAST first team in 2021 and 2023. Together, de Ruijter and Mitchell are the only Wildcats to be named all-conference in five straight seasons.

De Ruijter posted a career- and team-best 15 goals and 33 points, leading the BIG EAST in both categories. Over the course of the season, she jumped from 15th to tied for fifth in Villanova history with 45 goals. She also became one of 12 Wildcats to post four-or-more multi-goal games in a season.

Mitchell scored six goals of her own this season to become the third Wildcat to ever score 50 career goals. She wraps up a historic career on the Main Line in which she recorded the second most points in Villanova history (124).

Borkowski and Lysaght each earned the first BIG EAST All-Conference awards of their careers. Borkowski posted 10 goals on the season, including two hat tricks against Mercyhurst (Sept. 9) and then-No. 19 Temple (Oct. 25). The graduate student from Conshohocken, Pa., made an immediate impact in her first year with the Wildcats after winning two National Championships with North Carolina.

Lysaght, a sophomore from Christchurch, New Zealand, anchored the Villanova back line that shut out four teams over the course of the season. She also added two goals and eight assists on the offensive end, playing a key role in the Wildcats' penalty corner sets.
