NEW YORK, N.Y. -- After a 10th straight victory and a 9-0 start to conference play, Villanova softball picked up a pair of BIG EAST weekly awards as
Elizabeth Gray earned the conference's Freshman of the Week and
Grace Reed took home a weekly honor roll award.
Gray earns top rookie honors after she went 5-for-9 (.556 average) in Villanova's four wins, scoring four times with two extra-base hits and a pair of walks as the 'Cats swept Georgetown for 10 straight wins. The VU starting center fielder had a banner day on Friday, driving one home on an RBI double in the first contest before her first career three-hit effort in game two featuring a two-run triple.
Reed picks up her first career laurel after the New Jersey native slashed .500/.600/1.167 in a 4-0 week for the Wildcats, totaling six runs with a pair of doubles and home runs for 14 total bases on the week. The freshman drove in seven runs and scored three times herself, adding three walks while making eight plays as VU's starting shortstop. The infielder contributed a three-hit, five-RBI performance on Wednesday against Saint Joe's with a first-inning grand slam plus a double before jacking another dinger in game one against Georgetown.
Villanova will now take on three non-conference opponents during its BIG EAST bye week, beginning with a Wednesday trip into the city for a matchup with the Drexel Dragons.
