LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ – Villanova's late surge falls short in first round of Liberty Bell Classic, 9-7.
In round one of the Liberty Bell Classic the bats were off to a fast start for both teams. An RBI single got the scoring started for Villanova in the first inning. Rider responded with two of their own in the second inning to take a 2-1 lead. The first of three home runs by Villanova came in the fourth. A two-run shot gave the Wildcats the lead back, 3-2. The bats for Villanova went quiet for the next three innings and Rider took advantage. Six straight runs by the Broncs gave them a 9-3 lead going into the eighth inning. A late comeback by Villanova began with a two-run home run and an RBI double to bring the score to 9-6. A solo shot in the ninth was added by the Wildcats (9-7), but the comeback would stop there.
