Georgetown Outlasts Villanova 8-4 in BIG EAST Opener

WASHINGTON, DC – Villanova was defeated 8-4 in Washington, DC by Georgetown.
 
 
Villanova began the game strong with two runs in the first inning, but every time the Wildcats got some momentum the Hoyas responded.  In the bottom of the first a grand slam opened the scoring for Georgetown to give them a 4-2 lead.  The scoring stalled for three innings until a two-run home run by Villanova tied the game at 4 in the fifth.  Like before, a response from Georgetown came in the bottom of the inning with two runs of their own to reclaim the lead. The Wildcats had no answer from that point on and fell 8-4.
 
Nova Notes
  • Scott Shaw hit a two-run home run in the fifth inning, his fifth home run of the season.
  • Jason Neff added two RBI.  Neff recorded one hit on two at bats and added two hit by pitches.
  • Patrick Montfort pitched 2.1 innings allowing only three hits and one run while striking out two.
How It Happened
  • Jason Neff singled to left center scoring Jack O'Reilly and AJ Hansen in the top of the first, 2-0 Wildcats.
  • K Caster hit a grand slam in the bottom of the first inning giving Georgetown a 4-2 lead.
  • In the fifth Scott Shaw hit a two-run homer to right center tying the game 4-4.
  • A double by Christian Ficca scored Josh Rolling in the fifth, 5-4 Georgetown.
  • Christian Ficca scored on a passed ball in the fifth, 6-4 Georgetown.
  • A single in the bottom of the seventh by Marco Castillo scored Christian Ficca, 7-4.
  • Christian Ficca doubled down the left field line, 8-4 Georgetown in the bottom of the eighth.
