PLYMOUTH – Villanova breaks losing streak, picks up 5-3 victory over Penn at home.
Pitching depth was the story of this midweek matchup as both teams combined to throw 16 pitchers (five for Villanova). The problem was not hits for both staffs as each team only had five hits. The issues came from batters forcing deep counts and walks.
Villanova had full control over this game from the beginning. After the fourth inning the score was 3-0 Wildcats. In the game before between these two squads, Villanova took an early 3-0 lead before losing 8-3. A repeat of the first game seemed more likely after a two-run home run by Penn in the sixth to make the score 3-2. Fortunately, the Wildcats did not take long to respond as they added two more runs in the seventh from a fielder's choice and a wild pitch. The Quackers added one more in the eighth but great pitching and defense by Villanova gave them the 5-3 victory.
