UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa – Villanova Women's Tennis team opened their season on Saturday with a tough lose of 0-7 against Penn State.
 
Sophia Edwards fell to No. 1 6-2,6-0 in the first match up of singles competion. No. 2 defeated Maggie Gehrig 6-3,6-2. Olivia Corcoran lost 6-2,6-2 to No.3 while Jenna Stevens played No. 4 and fought hard with a 6-0, 7-5 lose. Valieriia Kornieva fell to No. 5 6-1,6-2 and Maddie Hills played No.6 where she was defeated 6-2, 6-2.
 
In Doubles Edwards and Gehrig paired up against No.1 but lost with a fight of 6-2. Duo Corcoran and Stevens competed against No.2 but the match even unfinished 5-4. Kornieva and Hills then paired up against No.3 and also lost 6-2.
 
The Wilcats will be back on the court as they travel to Penn on January 20^th.
