NEW YORK -- For the fourth time this year, Villanova volleyball has a conference major weekly award winner as junior
Abby Harrell earned BIG EAST Offensive Player of the Week on Monday afternoon.
Harrell joins
Campbell McKinnon as 'Cats to achieve the OPOW honor this season with the junior from Washington picking up the award for the first time in her career.
It's the first time since 2017 that the Wildcats have earned a pair of Player of the Week honors in the same season and just the fourth OPOW that VU's earned since the league split the honors into offensive and defensive in 2017.Â
Harrell dominated with two double-doubles in a 2-0 weekend for the Wildcats, putting up 38 kills (4.75 per set) and a total of 42.5 points as VU picked up important road wins at Providence and Connecticut.
On Friday night at PC, the junior contributed an 18-kill double-double to become the 21st Wildcat ever, and just the sixth in the last 10 years, to join the 1K kill club.
Saturday saw the fifth 20-plus kill output of the season for Harrell, totaling a match-best 20 terminations in addition to 10 digs and two aces to cross 100 for her career in that statistic.
Harrell's totals for the weekend included three aces, a trio of blocks and a team-best 22 digs. The most decorated player on Villanova's roster now ranks top five in the conference for kills and points, including two of the top four-set attacking performances in the league this year.
Harrell and the Wildcats return home this weekend, hosting DePaul and Marquette for evening matches on Friday and Saturday nights.
