CONSHOHOCKEN, Pa. – The Villanova field hockey team will be hosting their final home game of the season Friday, October 24, as they take on Providence at 3:00 p.m.
Villanova fell in both games last weekend on the road by a combined three points. The 'Cats fell to Quinnipiac, 2-0, on Friday. The two goals for the Bobcats came in the second half, with just five minutes separating each one. Even though VU was able to outshoot the Bobcats, 16-11, Villanova was unable to get into the scoring column. On Sunday, the 'Cats lost a close game in overtime to Drexel. The Dragons struck first, but Villanova answered in the second half thanks to junior
Colleen Finnan tallying her fifth goal of the season to tie things at one. The game needed another period to decide things, that's where Drexel scored in the first five minutes of action in overtime to secure a 2-1 win.
Providence is 8-6 on the season with a 1-4 record in the BIG EAST. The Friars lost their last contest to #7 Liberty on the road, 2-0. The game was tied at zero for most of the game until the Flames scored back-to-back goals in the final five minutes of regulation to obtain a 2-0 win. The lone for Providence in the BIG EAST was 2-0 win over Georgetown on September 26. The four losses in the conference have come to the hands of Old Dominion, UConn, Quinnipiac, and #7 Liberty. Last season the 'Cats picked up a road win on the last game of the season against Providence, 3-2.
Jane Bresnahan added a goal for VU in rout to the win.
The game on Friday will be streamed on ESPN +.
