VILLANOVA, Pa. – It's a return to Villanova Stadium for the Wildcats as VU men's lacrosse (3-2) welcomes the Penn Quakers to the Main Line for a Sunday afternoon square off.
PERFORMING AGAINST PENN
It's time for the fifth annual Farrell Cup as the Penn Quakers come to Villanova Stadium for a Sunday matchup. The Farrell Cup is played in honor of James (Penn '18) and Michael (Villanova '23) Farrell, who were tragically killed in a car accident in 2021. Penn won the most recent edition in 2025 11-8 despite two points and six ground balls for Jake Melchionni plus a brace from Quinton Cepiel. The Quakers also won the 2024 version while Villanova's most recent win came in 2023, featuring a goal and assist from Luke Raymond as David Evanchick, Dan Martin, Jack Shoemaker and Luke Williams all played for the 'Cats. Overall, Penn leads the series 20-11 though Villanova is much closer to even in the Mike Corrado era at 7-9 opposite the Big 5 rival.
DOWNED THE DRAGONS
A back and forth affair went the way of the Wildcats on Tuesday afternoon as Villanova picked up an 11-10 victory over Drexel at Vidas Field. Kessy Cox contributed his top performance as a collegian with three goals and an assist while Raymond pitched in a hat trick. Colin Michener totaled two goals, David Link and Nick Lucchesi both put forth a goal and assist and Gavin Michener scored for the 'Cats while Melchionni hoovered up a game-high in ground balls. A six-goal stretch between the first and second quarters plus timely answers in the second half gave the Wildcats the distance they needed to pull out a tight game, weathering a few runs from the Dragons. Link's goal with 4:15 left gave VU an 11-9 edge and a Denis Fargione save and runout in the final minute clinched a second straight road win for the Wildcats.
BROTHERLY LOVE
It's fitting that a Philadelphia Big 5 matchup pits the Wildcats and Quakers against each other as brotherly love is on full display between these programs. Villanova junior midfielder Nicholas Lucchesi is the older brother of Penn starter Nate Lucchesi, a sophomore midfielder for the visitors. The two were also high school teammates with VU freshman Cox at Radnor High School, which plays its lacrosse just down the road from Villanova Stadium. The 'Cats feature two other brother groupings on their 2026 roster: the Micheners (senior Colin and sophomore Gavin) and the Martins (graduate student Dan and sophomore Ryan Martin). The Quakers are one of 30 other DI teams that have a set of brothers on their team in Chandler and Grayson McClements.

- The Quakers are paced by senior midfielder Griffin Scane who is the team's leading scorer with 14 goals after being named an Honorable Mention All-American by multiple publications in the preseason.
- Junior SSDM Anthony McMullan leads Penn in ground balls and caused turnovers, goalie Jack Pelot averages 9.58 goals against and first-year attackman Jackson Maher is one of the top 25 freshmen in the country per Inside Lacrosse.
