Wildcats End Season in West Virginia

Morgantown, W.V. --- On Saturday, May 13th in Morgantown, West Virginia, the West Virginia Mountaineers defeated the Villanova baseball team by the score of 4-0 to complete a three-game sweep of the Wildcats. The Mountaineers won games one and two on Friday by the scores of 6-1 and 2-1.

With the three losses this weekend, Villanova ends the season at 24-26 overall, 8-15 in the Big East. West Virginia keeps their Big East hopes alive as their record currently stands at 25-28 overall, 10-12 in the Big East.

Taking the loss for the Wildcats on the mound was freshman Tom Kandybowitz, who falls to 4-2 on the season. Kandybowitz pitched five innings allowing three runs on seven hits, striking out five and walking two.

Getting the win on the mound for the Mountaineers was Jim Kirkland, who improves to 6-3. Kirkland pitched a complete game shutout allowing just seven hits, walking two and striking out eleven.

At the plate for Villanova, junior Dave Pizzini went two-for-four and ends the season with a .394 batting average. Also at the plate for the Wildcats, Nick Piantek and Brian Hearne each went one-for-two. Senior Chris Watson, in his last collegiate game, went one-for-three with a walk. Seniors Will Henry and Brian Manning came in the game to pitch relief for Villanova. Each pitched one inning of shutout baseball.

Again, the Villanova Wildcats close out the season at 24-26 overall, 8-15 in the Big East.
