With that win La Salle took a 26-25 lead in the all-time series.
Sophomore guard Derrick Snowden (Baltimore, Md.) grabbed a career-high seven rebounds. His previous career-high, six rebounds, was set versus Seton Hall last season (2/28/01).
Junior Ricky Wright (East Chicago, Ind.) set a career-high with four block shots. His previous career-high was two, set versus Georgetown (2/12/01). Wright finished with a team-high 18 points and nine rebounds.
Villanova recorded a season-high, nine blocked shots. It is the most block shots by the Wildcats since last year's West Virginia game (2/20/01) when Villanova blocked 11 shots.
The Wildcats 48 points at the end of regulation was their lowest point output in regulation since the 1991-92 season when Villanova scored 46 points in a 82-46 loss to Boston College.
La Salle's Rasual Butler (Philadelphia, Pa.) finished with a game-high 20 points on 6-of-12 shooting. Butler connected on 4-of-4 free throw attempts in overtime to seal the victory for La Salle.
First Half:
Junior Ricky Wright (East Chicago, Ind.) led Villanova in the first half scoring 12 points on 6-of-7 shooting. Wright also grabbed four rebounds and blocked three shots in first half action.
La Salle senior Rasual Butler (Philadelphia, Pa.) led the Explorers with 14 points on 5-of-9 shooting. Butler connected on 2-of-3 field goals from behind the three-point arc.
After La Salle tied the score at 7-7 at the 13:20 mark in the first half, Villanova went on a 8-2 run over the next 3:50 to take a 15-9 lead.
La Salle went on a 9-3 run over 2:58 late in the first half and tied the score at 24-24 with 1:28 remaining in the half. During the stretch, Rasul Butler (Philadelphia, Pa.) scored seven of the nine points during the stretch.
Second Half:
La Salle went on an 8-0 run over a span of 3:48 minutes to give La Salle a 41-40 lead, it's first lead since 1:43 into the contest when they led 2-0.
Villanova held La Salle to 8-of-23 shooting in the second half.
Overtime:
La Salle senior Julian Banks (Erie, Pa.) put the Explorers up for good, 55-54, in overtime with a lay-up with 1:36 remaining in the game.
