BIG EAST Final Results
PALM HARBOR, Fla. - The Villanova golf team concluded play at the BIG EAST Championships today in Palm Harbor, Fla. Taking home their best team finish since the 2006 season, the Wildcats brought back a 6th place team finish, following behind Georgetown, Notre Dame, Louisville, Seton Hall and St. John's.
Junior Conor Casey (Madison, N.J.) took top individual honors for VU, tying for 8th place overall after posting a third round score of 70 (76-71-70; 217).
Sophomore Brian Colbert (Cary, Ill.) (77-69-73; 219), junior Brendan Kelly (Annapolis, Md.) (77-72-73; 222), freshman Steve Skurla (Wheaton, Ill.) (74-75-73; 222) and junior Colin List (Boynton Beach, Fla.) (84-82-73; 239) rounded out the top five Villanova finishers, tying for 15th, 23rd, 23rd and 59th places overall, respectively.
As a team, the combined score of 880 put them just one stroke behind the fifth place St. John's Red Storm, who finished the three-day competition with a score of 879.
Individually, there was a playoff to take top honors. Notre Dame's Tom Usher and Max Scodro, St. John's Evan Beirne and Georgetown's Vincenzo Salina all finished with a total score of 215, good for 2-over-par for the tournament.
GU's Salina made a birdie on the first hole to take home the championship. Usher, Scodro and Beirne finished tied for second.
