MALVERN, Pa. - The Villanova golf team was back in action after a few weeks off at their own Wildcat Invitational being played at the par-71, 7,009 yard White Manor Country Club in Malvern, Pa. After the first day, which was suspended due to darkness, Villanova sits in sixth place out of twenty teams in the field with a 305 (+21). Five teams had not yet completed play in the first round of the 36-hole event.
Junior Brian Colbert (Cary, Ill.) leads Villanova in their top-5 with a 75 (+4) which puts him in a tie for 22nd place. Colbert had a very consistent day with pars on 15 of the 18 holes. Sophomore Robbie Galbreath (Huntington Valley, Pa.) comes in next for Villanova in a tie for 31st with a 76 (+5). Galbreath mixed in a birdie amongst four bogeys and a double bogey for a solid opening round.
Senior Conor Casey (Madison, N.J.) is tied for 36th after a very up-and-down 77 (+6). Casey had five bogeys, two double bogeys to go along with three birdies. Senior Brendan Kelly (Annapolis, Md.) is also in a tie for 36th with a 77 (+6) in a round where he tallied one birdie. Sophomore Michael Kania (Haverford, Pa.) rounds out the top five for Villanova in a tie for 83rd after an 83 (+12).
Villanova also has three individuals competing in the tournament that they are hosting. Sophomore Steve Skurla (Wheaton, Ill.) is having the best performance of any Wildcat thus far with three birdies and two bogeys through twelve holes for a -1 score which puts him in a tie for second place. Also competing is sophomore Derek Jones (Lower Burrell, Pa.) who has a birdie through 12 holes to go along with a +4 score to put him in a tie for 22nd. Lastly, senior Colin List (Boynton Beach, Fla.) has fired a +10 through 12 holes to put him in a tie for 72nd.
Delaware leads the team competition with a 290 (+6) while Delaware's Kevin McLister leads all individuals with a 66 (-5).
