Villanova Starts Fast at Adam's Cup

NEWPORT, R.I. - All five Villanova golfers are inside the top-25 in the 95 person field and the Wildcats sit alone in third place at the Adam's Cup of Newport. Villanova shot a 291 (+3) at the par-72, 7,244-yard Newport National Golf Club after the first round in the 54-hole event, which will conclude tomorrow. Villanova is just three shots behind UCF for the tournament lead. The second round got started this afternoon, but was not completed.

Senior Brian Colbert (Cary, Ill.) and sophomore Robby Meador (Miami Lakes, Fla.) each shot a 72 (E) and are currently in a tie for 11th. Colbert and Meador are just five shots back after one round of play. Both players were especially effective on par 4's, shooting -1 each, en route to leading Villanova to the top score in the field as a team on par 4's (+1).

Junior Steve Skurla (Wheaton, Ill.) shot a 73 (+1) and is in a tie for 16th.

Rounding out the top five, in a tie for 24th at 74 (+2) are juniors Michael Kania (Haverford, Pa.) and Derek Jones (Lower Burrell, Pa.).

The Adam's Cup will conclude tomorrow with the end of the second round and the entire third round.
