VILLANOVA, Pa. - The Villanova men's golf team posted a team score of 297 in the final of three rounds at the Rutgers Invitational from the Rutgers University Golf Course in Piscataway, N.J on Saturday afternoon to finish 15th in the two-day tournament. Villanova shot 308-301-297--906 (+54) as a team across three rounds. The Wildcats climbed two places after finishing tied for 17th through two rounds.

After shooting 80 and 73 in the first two rounds, Villanova junior Luke Waggoner posted an even-par 71 for the best VU finish on Saturday as he continued to progressively shoot better from round to round at the event. Waggoner ranked second on the squad with a three-round score of 224 (+11) and placed tied for 36th overall in the 96-man, 18-team tournament. Waggoner's final scoring line: 80-73-71--224 (+11).

Freshman Andrew Butler topped his two previous rounds of 77 with a two-over par 73 to finish tied for 51st and third on Villanova. The freshman tied for the best par three scoring average over the weekend at 2.93 (-1). In three rounds, Butler carded rounds of 77-77-73--227(+14).

Sophomore Lucas Trim went 74-73 in rounds one and two and shot 76 in round three for a team-best 223 (+10) across 54 holes. Trim finished in the top third of the field (tied for 31st) and ranked tied for 11th with 36 pars.

Freshman Andrew MacMillan shot 77 on Saturday to round out the top-four round three scores for Villanova in the final day. MacMillan shot 85-83-77--245 (+32) at the Rutgers Invite.

Fellow freshman Zach Egermayer carded a round of 78 in round three after shooting 77-78 in rounds one and two, respectively, to finish with a 54-hole total of 233 (+20).

Senior Scott Miller competed as an individual in the event and shot 83-83-86--252 (+39) over the two days in Piscataway.

Wofford College fought its way from fourth place through 36 holes to come-from-behind to win the Rutgers Invitational with a 297-281-281--859 (+7) total. Rutgers placed one-stroke behind to finish second (860, +8).

Fairfield, Wagner, Lehigh, Hofstra, Bethune-Cookman, Lafayette, Iona, CSU Bakersfield and Fairleigh Dickinson placed third through 11th, respectively, at the two-day event.

La Salle and Monmouth tied for 12th place at 898 (+46), while St. Peter's finished five strokes ahead of Villanova to finish in 14th place (901, +49). Savannah State, Rutgers (B) and Manhattan rounded out the field of competition.

Villanova returns to action on Sun., Sept. 28 and Mon., Sept. 29 at the George Mason-hosted Patriot Intercollegiate in Lorton, Va. and Laurel Hills, Va. The competing teams will play a practice round on Sat., Sept. 27.
