OKATIE, S.C. - The Villanova golf team concluded play on day one of the three-day, 54-hole BIG EAST Championships at Callawassie Island Golf Club in Okatie, S.C. The Wildcats shot 316 (+28) as a team in round one and currently sit in eighth place.

The nine BIG EAST teams played on the nine-hole Dogwood and the nine-hole Magnolia courses on Sunday.

Junior Luke Waggoner led VU with a round of 77 (+5) on the combined par 72 course. Waggoner had 12 pars and a birdie on the par 4, No. 10.

Sophomore Lucas Trim followed it up with a round of 78 (+6). Trim shot an even 36 on the front nine, but a 42 (+6) on the back.

Freshmen Zach Egermayer and Andy Butler totaled rounds of 80 (+8) and 81 (+9) on the afternoon to round out the top-four Villanova scorers. Butler eagled the par 5, No. 6 to go one under on the front nine.

Fellow freshman Will Byrne carded a round of 87 (+15) on day one.

DePaul leads the tournament at 299 (+1) following round one. Georgetown and Xavier are tied at 301 (+13) for second. Marquette sits in fourth at 304 (+16) followed by St. John's (305, +17) in fifth.

Creighton (306, +18), Seton Hall (308, +20), Villanova (316, +28) and Butler (317, +29) round out the nine-team field.

Play resumes tomorrow morning, Monday April 27 in Okatie, S.C. and will finish on Tuesday, April 28.
