Winter Park, FL – Villanova Women's Rowing kicked off their spring season at the Rollins Invitational on March 9, 2019 on Lake Maitland.
The Wildcats returned to the water after a successful winter indoors. After a week of training on Lake Maitland, the Cats took on Rollins College, Assumption College, Stetson University, Clark University, and Duquesne University in the opening race of the spring season.
Seven Villanova boats competed under ideal conditions with minimal wind.
The 3rd V8 kicked off the day with a first place finish over Duquesne in a time of 7:06.1.
The Varsity 8 finished second in 6:46.8 to Stetson (6:46). Duquesne finished third (6:59.4).
In the tightest race of the morning, the 2nd V8 had a photo finish, taking second to Duquesne by .05 seconds. Duquesne finished with a time of 6:50.8, followed by the Cats with a time of 6:50.85. Clark (7:25.3), Stetson (7:25.9), and Rollins (7:38.1) rounded out the field.
The V4 gave the Wildcats another first place finish in 7:32.9 over Rollins (7:44.4), Stetson (8:05.4), Duquesne (8:20.3), and Assumption (8:54.6).
Both the Villanova's Freshmen/Novice 8 and the 2nd V4 scored victories in their respective races, bringing Villanova to a total of four first place finishes.
In the final race of the morning, the F/N4 took third place behind Stetson and Rollins.
"We are pleased with the results this morning, but we're even more happy with the quality of training we were able to accomplish during our week here in Florida," expressed Head Coach Carissa Adams.
The Wildcats return to the Schuylkill on March 17th to test their speed against St. Joseph's and conference rival University of Delaware.
