Box Score CHARLESTON, S.C.-Down a run in the bottom of the ninth, the Bulldogs were able to score two in walk-off fashion in an 8-7 win over Villanova. The Citadel improves to 5-0 while Villanova drops to 0-4.
Tilo Skole hit a ground rule double that hopped over the left field wall to lead off the bottom of the ninth inning with a man on second. The Bulldogs were able to execute and three hits later, The Citadel took home an 8-7 win highlighted by a walk-off single by Sawyer Reeves.
Villanova struck first in the series opener when
Pat O'Neill scored on a throwing error for an early 1-0 lead in the top of the first.
The lead would be short-lived as
Danny Wilkinson ran into some early trouble on the mound for the Wildcats. Four runs crossed home plate in the first two innings for The Citadel capped off by a two-run single from Crosby Jones for a 4-1 Bulldogs lead.
Villanova played some small ball in the top of the third that led to a run.
AJ Hansen led off the inning with a single to left,
Connor Hale laid down a bunt to move Hansen to second and O'Neill lined a single to left to plate Hansen and trim The Citadel's lead to 4-2.
Despite the early trouble, Wilkinson settled in the third and held the Bulldogs scoreless for three consecutive innings. The southpaw finished the day with five innings, allowed four earned runs and struck out eight batters.
The Wildcats reached within one run in the sixth when
Cameron Hassert scored from second on a fielding error by the shortstop to set the score at 4-3 Bulldogs.
Ryan McCarthy plated a run in the bottom of the seventh on a sacrifice fly to extend the Bulldogs lead to 5-3.
Trailing by two runs in the top of the eighth, Villanova turned the tide with a four-run rally. Following back-to-back walks from
John Whooley and Hassert,
Will Reiner came in clutch and sent a ball to the warning track for a two-run double to tie the game at five.
Chris Rotondo helped Villanova reclaim the 6-5 lead with a single to center to plate Reiner. The Wildcats extended their lead to 7-5 when O'Neill scored on a throwing error.

Will Reiner went 2-for-4 with a pair of RBI. The catcher has gone 4-for-12 in his first four games.
Pat O'Neill went 2-for-5 with an RBI and a run scored.
Connor Hale went 1-for-3 with a run scored. Along with his first hit, the freshman recorded his first stolen base as a Wildcat.
Danny Wilkinson has fanned 13 batters throughout his first two outings of the season.
