BIG EAST schedule opens at Georgetown

VILLANOVA, Pa. – Riding a four-game winning streak, Villanova opens its BIG EAST slate with a weekend trip to the Regency Furniture Stadium in Waldorf, Md. for a three-game series with Georgetown to close out an 11-game road tilt.
Villanova (7-13-1) has been an offensive onslaught as of late, scoring 51 runs on 52 hits in the last four games. Each of those games has seen the Wildcats blast at least home run, three in the 15-5 throttling of Delaware State on Tuesday afternoon alone, along with at least a pair of doubles in all four affairs and a triple added in
Aside from the hits, 'Cats have been getting on base with a high number of walks too, 34 in the past four games, to be exact, with 11 hit by pitches. That number is currently fourth-most in the league.
The Wildcats have gone to battle with Georgetown (16-9) 148 times since 1898, holding a 96-52 advantage in the all-time series with a 79-36 record in BIG EAST contests. Villanova swept the series last season, outscoring the Hoyas 12-5 over the weekend. The 'Cats hold a 43-31 advantage when playing at Georgetown but have not won a game there since May 15, 2016.

The Rotondo File: With a 20-game hitting streak, Chris Rotondo now owns the longest hitting streak in the last 20 years for Villanova based on available records. He leads the team with a .383 hitting percentage and has slammed six home runs, landing him fourth in the league for both. Throughout the season, the centerfielder has had eight multi-hit games, a team-high on the year. His .500 on base percentage is also second in the BIG EAST while his 1.25 runs per game lead the conference. He has recorded 27 runs on 31 hits with a team-leading 22 RBI and has been walked 15 times. His reached-base streak is now at 50 games.
Reiner's Big Day: Two of Villanova's three home runs at Delaware State came from Will Reiner who went 2-for-4 from the plate, racking up five RBI. Both the home runs and RBI mark single-game career highs for the senior. He and Rotondo lead the team in single-game home runs and RBIs.
Cam Do: Cameron Mathes has proven to be a trusty reliever this season on the mound, making 10 appearances in the first 21 games. In that time, that graduate student has allowed a team-best three runs, two earned, on nine hits through 11 1/3 innings pitched while also leading with a 1.59 ERA. Opposing batters have not gotten a run off of him in his last four trips the bump. He has struck out 13 batters he has faced.
Scouting the Hoyas: Winners of four of its last five games, Georgetown enters the weekend currently sitting third in the BIG EAST. The Hoyas have hit the most home runs among conference teams this season with 49, the 16th most in the nation, and are averaging 1.96 homers a game and team batting average of .272. They set a single-game high on the year with nine home runs in their outing against Coppin State on Wednesday, winning 17-11. Jake Hyde has been big at the plate for Georgetown, leading the league with a .417 batting average, with 11 doubles and 12 home runs on 45 hits, putting him at fifth and sixth in the nation, respectively. Of the 12 Hoyas who have hit home runs, 10 have launched at least two this season. Carter Bosch leads the Hoyas' pitching with a 3.00 ERA going 3-1 so far this season with three starts in nine appearances with 24 innings pitched with 19 strikeouts.
