Box Score OMAHA, Neb. – Villanova was bested in the first game of three at Creighton in a 6-0 loss on Thursday night at Charles Schwab Field. The Wildcats struggled to get the bats going due to the strength of the Bluejays pitching staff and were held scoreless throughout the full nine.
 
Freshman second baseman Michael Whooley was one of the few to manage a hit on the outing going 2-for-3 with a couple singles into the gap. Senior centerfielder AJ Hansen also managed a hit and a stolen base on the night.
 
Graduate pitcher Luke Dziados tossed for 4.0 innings coming in to relieve starter Cole Vanderslice on the mound. Dziados held the Bluejays scoreless and only allowed four hits accompainied by a season high of five strikes outs.
 
Creighton hit the ground running in the bottom of the first scoring three to take an early lead. Nolan Sailors was the first Bluejay to bring a runner in off a strong double to left field. Tyler Lozano crushed a triple down the left line to score Sailors on the following play and is scored off a wild pitch for to the 3-0 result.
 
After a scoreless second innings the Bluejays pick up another two runs. Sailors hit a leadoff double to be scored by Lozano on a single to left field. With the bases loaded Sterling Hayes got a hard-hit ball just off the glove of Craig Larsen to shift everyone over a base to score. The Bluejays extend their lead to 5-0.
 
Neither team is able to rally any runs until the bottom of the seventh when Creighton tacked on one more run off a Hogan Helligso ground out RBI. No other runs were scored on either side with the game ending in the top of the ninth. The final score was 6-0 for the Bluejays win.
 
Creighton's starting pitcher Ryan Windham had a solid performance tossing for 7.0 innings with six strikeouts and only allowed four hits and no runs in during his time on the hill.
