VILLANOVA, Pa. – Luke McCollough, Jason Neff, Stephen Turzai and Michael Whooley have been named captains of the 2025 Villanova University baseball team, the team announced Friday (Dec. 6).
 
"We are very excited about our captains and the leadership on and off the field that they provide for our program," said head coach Kevin Mulvey.
 
McCollough, a graduate transfer from Utah Valley University entering his second season with the Wildcats, posted a 5-4 record in 2024. In 17 appearances (with 12 starts), the right-handed pitcher posted a team-best 48 strikeouts and a 5.20 ERA. He recorded five starts in which he held opponents to one run or less.
 
Neff tied for second among all Wildcats with nine home runs in 2024. The backstop appeared in 50 of 51 games, with 49 starts. He came to the Main Line from Richmond ahead of the 2024 season and will look to continue to provide a consistent spark in the Villanova lineup in 2025.
 
Turzai will begin his third season as a graduate student at Villanova after transferring from Franklin & Marshall. The righty made 25 appearances out of the bullpen in 2024, posting a 1-1 record and 15 scoreless appearances. The Wexford, Pa., native will continue to play a key role in the Wildcats' bullpen.
 
Whooley, the only undergraduate player stepping into a leadership role, finished in the top five among all Wildcats in hits, home runs, RBIs and doubles in 2024. The infielder from Wykoff, N.J., consistently created offensive opportunities for the Blue and White, with a team-best 32 walks and a .382 on-base percentage.
 
Villanova and its new captains will open the season at the Puerto Rico Challenge, where the Wildcats will face Rice (Feb. 14), Virginia (Feb. 15) and Michigan (Feb. 16).
