Box Score LAWRENCEVILLE, NJ— Villanova defeats Rider 4-3.
The Wildcats traveled to New Jersey to take on Rider. The match began with doubles play where the Broncs would take the point. As singles play began the matches would go back and forth until the last two. With the match being led 3-2 by Rider, Villanova responds with two straight singles victories to win the match.
Doubles
In the one spot
Josh Robinson and Thoams Wakefield fell in a tie breaker 7-6 (7-3) to Dhruv Tangri and Jamie De Jarizq.
Will Monahan and
Lukas Choi fell in their two-spot match up to Jake Grimes and Nathan Slattery 6-3.
The senior duo of
Cooper Gordon and
Eitan Khromchenko competed in the final doubles spot and picked up the victory for the 'Cats 7-5 over Ibragim Turgambekov and Roger Martinez.
Singles
Robinson responded from doubles play with a victory in the one spot for Villanova. The match went to three against Riders' Tangri. After losing the first set (5-7), Robinson responded by winning the second set 7-6(8-6) and the third 6-4.
Ryan Nguyen fell in the two spot 6-3, 6-1.
Freshman
Will Monahan defeated Stavros Hadjivarnava in three sets. After losing the first set in a tie breaker (6-7(4-7)), Monahan would go on to tie the match score for Villanova at 2-2 after winning two straight sets.
Lukas Choi fell in the fourth spot 6-4, 6-3 to Slattery.
Freshman
Thomas Wakefield evens the match up at 3-3 with a third set tiebreaker over Jake Grimes. Like his teammates Monahan and Robinson, Wakefield would lose the first set but rally and win the last two (5-7, 6-3, 7-6 (7-3)).
Eitan Khromchenko claims the victory for the Wildcats with a 6-3, 6-0 performance over Jamie De Jarizq.
