BIG EAST Ball At Plymouth: Villanova and St. John's have faced off 112 times going al the way back to 1908 where the Red Strom leading the series with a 63-49 record. The last home series for the Wildcats against St. John's came in 2022 where Villanova took two out of the three games.
Week Of Rest: Villanova had their weekday game against Delaware State canceled due to weather this past Wednesday, allowing the players to have a full week off to be prepared for the homestand.
Schwede Starting: Rian Schwede will kick off the series on the mound for the Wildcats. Schwede pitched last week at Georgetown giving up six runs on five hits while striking out four batters in 4.2 innings of work.
Reading into the Red Storm
- St. John's is off to one of their best start in years with a 19-5-1 record and is coming off two wins against Winthrop last week. This will be the Red Storm's first BIG EAST play of the season so far. This great start by St. John's is because of their well-rounded play as a team this year so far.
- The bats for St. John's have been hot to start the season ranking tops in many categories in the BIG EAST. The team ranks first in batting average (.316) as a team, doubles (67) and doubles per game (2.68) and second in on base percentage (.425).
- The arms for the Red Storm are not too far behind the bats as the pitching staff ranks second in the BIG EAST in ERA with a 4.44 average.
- Friday's starting pitcher Xavier Kolhosser is coming off a start last week (March 29) against Winthrop where he threw seven innings allowing only three hits, no runs and struck out 10 batters.
