NEW YORK – After a stellar performance in the Villanova University baseball team's season-opening win over Rice, right-handed pitcher
Bobby Olsen was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll, the conference announced Monday (Feb. 17).
The award comes after Olsen held Rice to just one run over six innings on Friday (Feb. 14) in the opening game of the Puerto Rico challenge. The graduate senior struck out seven Owls while only surrendering three hits and no walks.
Olsen's ERA sits at 1.50 after the impressive debut effort, with a remarkable WHIP of 0.50. Against Olsen, the Owls went 3-for-22 for a batting average of .136.
Olsen is likely to take the mound again in his home state of South Carolina at Villanova's next weekend series against Winthrop (Feb. 21-23). The games will be played at Founders Field (Rock Hill, S.C.) and Sunday's game streamed live on ESPN+ with first pitch scheduled for 1 p.m.
