Olsen Named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week after Nine-Strikeout Performance

NEW YORK – Villanova right-handed pitcher Bobby Olsen has been named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Monday (March 17). This is Olsen's third weekly honor of the season after being named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Feb. 17 and Feb. 24.

Olsen breezed through the NJIT lineup on Friday, fanning a season-high nine batters over eight full innings. He yielded only one run and no walks, setting up the Wildcats for a walk-off winner in the ninth.

The Nebraska transfer currently leads the BIG EAST with 36 strikeouts, a 2.73 ERA and a 1.00 WHIP. Opponents are only hitting .205 against Olsen, which would rank as the seventh lowest opponent batting average in Villanova history. His 36 strikeouts over 33.0 innings pitched average out to 9.72 strikeouts per nine innings, which would rank in the top 20 in program record books.

The Powdersville, South Carolina native is next expected to take the mound this weekend (March 21-23) in his home state when the Wildcats make the trip to Wofford. In the meantime, the Wildcats will play next at home against Princeton on Wednesday (March 19) at Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth. First pitch is slated for 3:15 p.m., and the game will be streamed live on FloSports.
