VILLANOVA, Pa. – Men's Golf will take part in the Golden Horseshoe Invitational hosted by the College of William & Mary at Golden Horseshoe Golf Club in Williamsburg, Va., playing three rounds over Monday and Tuesday
Villanova has frequented this event over the past few years, finishing ninth last year, but recording a team win in 2023, after shooting up the leaderboard from eighth to first on day two.
The field consists of 14 teams, including Villanova, a fellow Big 5 team in Drexel, and a BIG EAST opponent in Georgetown. The 11 other teams are FDU, Holy Cross, Lafayette, Longwood, Navy, Rhode Island, Saint Joseph's, St. Bonaventure, Towson, Virginia, and the host: William and Mary.
The format will be 5 count 4, as well as stroke play. The event consists of three rounds, with two taking place on the first day, for 54 holes total.
All teams were invited to bring a starting five, along with an individual.
Villanova will be paired up with Longwood and Lafayette. They will tee off starting at 8:30 A.M. on Monday, March 24, on holes 8-10. Their individual,
Nathan Marion, will play alongside two individuals from the University of Virginia and will start on hole 18.
THE LINEUP (LISTED IN 1-5 ORDER)
Ryan Pamer tied for 39
th in his last event and looks to rebound on the individual side from some tough rounds in this event. Despite his lowest-ranked finish of the season at Sea Palms Golf Resort, he still managed to shoot a three-under 68 in the second round.
Matt Zerfass used the strength of his first two days of competition in Georgia in the Wildcats' last tournament to tie for 14
th, marking his third top 20 finish on the season.
Vibhav Alokam recorded his first top 10 finish of his collegiate career, placing tied for sixth at 209 (-4) his last time out at The People's Championship.
Gus Vickers displayed strong showings in the first two events Villanova took part in to kick off the spring season, which earns him another start in Virginia. He carded a three-under 68 round in the first round of The People's Championship, which at that time ranked within the top 25 rounds played in the four-year history of the event.
Jackson Lehner is making his first appearance since BIG EAST Match Play, when he went 0-2-1 in Florida. He has a season low of 71 that he notched at The Doc Gimmler.
Nathan Marion will round out the lineup for the Wildcats and compete as an individual. His last appearance was at the Big 5 Championship, where he tied for 20
th at 81 (+11).
