Wildcats to Open BIG EAST Play with Home Series Against Georgetown

PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. – The Villanova University baseball team will open its conference season with a home series against Georgetown this weekend (April 4-6) at Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth.

QUICK HITTERS
  • The Wildcats will host Georgetown in a three-game BIG EAST-opening series over the weekend.
  • Villanova is 98-59 all-time against the Hoyas. Georgetown swept last season's three-game series.
  • Last weekend, the Wildcats scored seven-or-more runs in their fifth straight game for the first time since 2010.
  • Outfielder Austin Lemon has reached base in all 21 games he has appeared in to start 2025. He currently leads the Wildcats in batting average (.361) and on-base percentage (.478).
  • With 18 strikeouts and just three walks this year, Sophomore pitcher Jake Francis' K:BB ratio of 6.00 is tied for 30th highest in the nation. His BB/9 of 0.88 ranks eighth in Division I.
  • Freshman John Freitag has a .600 batting average (9-for-15) and a .684 on-base percentage during his current five-game hitting streak.
  • Francis and Freitag both earned BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll nods.

FREITAG ON FIRE
Freshman outfielder John Freitag has been incredible at the plate during his current five-game hitting streak. Freitag has registered a batting average and on-base percentage over .600, and has tallied nine hits and eight RBI. Freitag has recorded more than half of his season RBI total (15) in the last 10 days. He has leapt into the top five among Wildcats in batting average, slugging percentage, home runs and doubles. The New York native's outstanding hot streak has been highlighted by a grand slam, two doubles and five RBI in a 12-0 win over Delaware State (March 25). Freitag was named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll on Monday (March 31) for his efforts.

THE CLUTCH 'CATS
Villanova has been excellent in important situations at the plate as of late. In the team's last five games, the team is 3-for-5 with two grand slams when the bases are loaded. Additionally, the 'Cats are hitting .333 (18-for-54) with runners in scoring position and .277 (13-for-47) with two outs. The timely hitting has led to a historic run output as Villanova scored seven-or-more runs in their fifth straight game for the first time since 2010 in Saturday's win over LIU.

GEORGETOWN AT A GLANCE
The Hoyas enter the weekend at 10-18 after dropping two of three games last weekend against UMBC. At the plate, Georgetown is led by middle infielder Blake Schaaf and preseason All-BIG EAST outfielder Kavi Caster. Both players are hitting well over .300. On the mound, preseason All-BIG EAST left-hander Andrew Williams leads the team in ERA with 2.18. Williams is a two-time BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week this season, while Caster has been named to the BIG EAST Weekly Honor Roll twice.

The series opener will be played on Friday (April 4) at 3 p.m. ET. All three games will be streamed live on FloSports.
