NEW YORK – After earning saves on back-to-back days in Villanova's two wins over Georgetown, right-handed pitcher
Alec Sachais was named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Monday (April 7). Shortstop
Michael Whooley was also named to the conference's Weekly Honor Roll.
Sachais pitched 5.0 innings between the two wins over Georgetown (April 5-6), posting a .063 opponent batting average over the scoreless outings. He did not allow a baserunner over three full innings of work on Sunday (April 6), leading Villanova to a series-clinching win.
The New Jersey native now leads the Wildcats with a career-high five saves on the season. His ERA of 4.45, WHIP of 1.41, and 30 strikeouts all rank second on the team.
Meanwhile, at the plate, Whooley posted a .462 batting average and a .562 on-base percentage over Villanova's last four games. He mashed two home runs and drove in four runs as Villanova took two of three games against Georgetown.
Whooley is in the midst of a six-game hitting streak and a 10-game on-base streak. He currently leads Villanova with 36 hits and has already set a new career-high with six home runs on the season.
After Tuesday's matchup with Penn was canceled, the Wildcats will next face Butler in a three-game series this weekend (April 11-13) at Bulldog Park in Indianapolis, Ind. All three games can be streamed live on FloSports.
