PLYMOUTH MEETING, Pa. – The Villanova University baseball team will look to snap a four-game losing streak with a three-game series against UConn this weekend (May 2-4) at Villanova Ballpark.
QUICK HITTERS
- The Wildcats trail the all-time series against the Huskies, 25-47. UConn swept 2024's three-game series.
- The Wildcats have four everyday starters batting over .300: Austin Lemon (.352), Brayden Leonard (.327), Michael Whooley (.318), and Jason Neff (.313).
- Whooley and Leonard are the only two players to appear in all 41 games this season for Villanova.
- Neff went 3-for-5 with a home run and five RBI in Tuesday's loss to Saint Joseph's. The West Palm Beach (Fla.), native now has three games with five-or-more RBI this season.
- Lemon reached base six times on Tuesday, recording four hits, one walk and one hit by pitch. The center fielder posted two runs and a double in the loss.
HISTORIC SEASON FOR NEFF
Catcher
Jason Neff has been red-hot at the plate over Villanova's last five games. He is batting .500 (9-for-18) with one home run and nine RBI over that span, and has recorded an on-base percentage of .609. Neff continued to climb the record books in multiple categories after going 3-for-5 with a home run, a double and five RBI on Tuesday at Saint Joseph's (April 29). Neff's 2025 season is now tied for eighth in program history in home runs (13) and ranks 15th in RBI with 55. He has the most home runs and RBI in a single season by a Villanova player since Jeremy Hunt in 2006 (15 HR, 56 RBI). Additionally, the Richmond transfer has 22 home runs during his Villanova career, good for 11th most in school history. After hitting 16 over two seasons (2022-2023) with the Spiders, his 38 career collegiate home runs would be tied for second most in Villanova history.
WHO'S ON FIRST? PROBABLY AUSTIN LEMON
Outfielder
Austin Lemon has been a regular on the base paths this season. After going 4-for-4 and reaching base on all six plate appearances on Tuesday, Lemon has posted a team-best .352 batting average and a .462 on-base percentage. Both figures, if they hold through the Wildcats 10 remaining games, will be the highest for a Villanova Player since Chris Rotondo in 2022.
UCONN AT A GLANCE
The Huskies enter the weekend having won 14 of their last 15 games. UConn went on a 13-game win streak from April 9 to April 27, vaulting the team towards the top of the BIG EAST standings. The Huskies are led by six preseason All-BIG EAST team members, including the preseason Player of the Year (Maddix Dalena) and Pitcher of the Year (Ian Cooke).
Friday's game against the Huskies will begin at 3 p.m. All three games will be streamed live on FloSports.
