NEW YORK – After recording a season-high seven strikeouts across six scoreless innings, graduate right-handed pitcher Jack Kelley was named BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week, the conference announced Monday, March 16.
Kelley becomes the first Villanova pitcher to earn BIG EAST Pitcher of the Week honors this season.
The Temecula, California native delivered six shutout innings while allowing just two hits in Villanova's 5-0 victory over Charleston Southern. Kelley struck out a season-high seven batters and issued only two walks to earn the win and help the Wildcats clinch the series.
His seven strikeouts mark the highest single-game total by a Villanova pitcher this season. Kelley's six innings of work are also the longest outing by a Wildcats starting pitcher so far this year.
Kelley and the Wildcats will return home to host UNC Asheville for a three-game series from March 20–22 at Villanova Ballpark at Plymouth. The series opener on Friday is scheduled for 3:05 p.m. ET, and all three games will be streamed live on ESPN+ after the team's midweek matchup with Coppin State was postponed due to weather.
