CHARLESTON, S.C.-Trailing 6-0 in the third inning, The Citadel Bulldogs were able to chip away throughout the game resulting in a 13-10 win over Villanova. The Citadel improves to 6-1 while Villanova drops to 1-5.
Villanova's offense was able to give starting pitcher
Devin Rivera some early run support with six runs in the first three innings for a 6-0 lead. Three of the Wildcats' runs were aided by errors from the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs got on the board in the bottom of the third with a run scored on a groundout followed by another runner scoring on a wild pitch to trim Villanova's lead to 6-2.
Joey Castellanos and
Jack O'Reilly added two insurance runs in the top of the fourth with a pair of RBI singles to extend Villanova's lead to 8-2.
The Bulldogs were quick to counter in the bottom of the fourth with three runs including an RBI double from Dylan Costa to put them within three of the Wildcats.
Chic DeGaetano took the mound in the fifth inning and tossed two stellar shutout innings of relief, allowed no hits and struck out two batters.
The Bulldogs added a pair of runs in the bottom of the seventh highlighted by an RBI single from Travis Lott to cut Villanova's lead to 8-7. An inning later, The Citadel broke through with six runs scored on three hits for a 13-8 lead.
Cameron Hassert plated two with an RBI double in the top of the ninth, but the rally was short-lived in the 13-10 loss.

Jack O'Reilly went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in.
Joey Castellanos went 1-for-4 with two runs batted in. In his past two games, Castellanos has gone 5-for-9 with three runs driven in.
Cameron Hassert drove in three runs this past weekend with a pair of doubles.
The Wildcats return to action Wednesday, March 2 at Charleston Southern for a weekday matchup. First pitch is at 5:00 p.m.Â
