Buccaneers power past Wildcats

Vance Anderson and AJ Hansen homered in the 9-3 loss.

CHARLESTON, S.C.-Three Buccaneer homers in the first three innings of Wednesday's game were the driving force in a 9-3 win over Villanova. Charleston Southern improves to 6-4 while Villanova drops to 1-6.

Austen Izzio kickstarted the Bucs' offense in the bottom of the first with a two-run homer for an early 2-0 lead.

The Bucs' bats continued to stay hot in the second inning when Hayden Harris sent a solo shot to right to extend the lead to 3-0.

Villanova ran into more trouble in the bottom half of the third when Charleston Southern added a pair of runs highlighted by a solo homer from Tyrell Brewer for a 5-0 lead.

The Wildcats began to claw back when Vance Anderson sent a hanging curveball over the fence and into the woods for a two-run homer, trimming the Bucs' lead to 5-2.

After Charleston Southern scored a run on a wild pitch in the fifth to extend the lead to 6-2, AJ Hansen made some noise with one swing of the bat in the next frame. The junior belted a solo homer to left to put the Wildcats within three.

Despite the blast from Hansen, Charleston Southern scored three unanswered runs to cement the 9-3 win.
