Wildcats fall late to Panthers

ATLANTA, GA.- A three-run homer from Max Ryerson in the seventh inning was the difference maker in Villanova's 8-4 loss to Georgia State. Villanova drops to 1-9 while Georgia State improves to 7-5.

Chris Rotondo made an instant impact Sunday with a leadoff homer to give the Wildcats a 1-0 lead. Rotondo has now hit two leadoff homers in 10 games played this season.

The Wildcats added some insurance runs in the fourth when Cameron Hassert cleared the bases with a three-run double for a 4-0 lead.

Georgia State was quick to counter in the bottom half of the fourth. The Panthers strung together four runs on six hits to tie the game at four.

Both teams struggled to produce runs from that point on until Ryerson entered the batter's box with runners on first and second. The junior homered down the right field line to give Georgia State a 7-4 lead.

The Panthers added a run in the bottom of the eighth off a fielding error to cement the 8-4 decision.
