A three-sport standout at Villanova who lettered in football, basketball and baseball, Al Postus played in the NFL for the Pittsburgh Steelers following his collegiate career. He was a ember of the Wildcats varsity football squad from 1941-43 and graduated from Villanova in 1944. Postus was inducted to the Varsity Club Hall of Fame in 1993.

During his football career Postus played for a pair of Hall of Fame coaches in Maurice “Clipper” Smith and Jordan Olivar. In each of his first two varsity seasons the Wildcats tallied notable wins over Florida, including 6-0 in Gainesville in 1941 and 13-3 at Shibe Park a year later. Villanova also had a win over Baylor during the 1941 season and posted victories over Iowa State and Temple in the 1942 campaign.

As a senior in 1943, Postus helped lead the Wildcats to a 5-3 record in Olivar’s first of six seasons as head coach. Villanova opened the year with a 35-12 win over Muhlenberg and later counted road wins against both Princeton and Temple.

Postus was selected by the Philadelphia Eagles with the 228th overall pick in the 22nd round of the 1944 NFL Draft. He was part of a draft day trade to the Pittsburgh Steelers and he appeared in two games for the Steelers during the 1945 season when he completed two passes on five attempts for a total of 73 yards.

A veteran of the United States Marine Corps, Postus was a longtime football coach in the Philadelphia Catholic League. He coached primarily at Monsignor Bonner and Bishop Kendrick High Schools and was inducted to the Bonner Hall of Fame as well as to the Penna/Brown Prep Athletic Association Hall of Fame. Postus passed away in 2008 at the age of 87.
