John Kolmer was Villanova’s leading rusher as a junior who tied a school record with three rushing touchdowns in a game. He played on the Wildcats varsity squad from 1964-66 and graduated from Villanova in 1967. Kolmer was inducted to the Varsity Club Hall of Fame in 1994.

During the 1965 season Kolmer rushed 81 times for a team-high 269 yards to go along with seven receptions for another 39 yards. He was considered both a hard runner and a strong receiver during his years on the team. One of his highlights from the 1965 season was scoring three touchdowns against Delaware on runs of one, seven and two yards. The three rushing scores tied a single game school record at the time and Kolmer would ultimately tie for the team lead with 24 points on the year.

In his first season on the active roster, Kolmer rushed for 74 yards and had 23 receiving yards for a Wildcats squad which went 6-2 under Hall of Fame head coach Alex Bell. Villanova had notable wins on the road over Toledo and Holy Cross early in the year before tallying consecutive shutouts of Detroit and Delaware by identical 34-0 margins.

Kolmer’s senior year in 1966 was also a good one for the Wildcats, who went 6-3 and tallied wins over Delaware, Xavier and Boston College.

After earning a degree in Sociology, Kolmer went on to be a banker and was co-founder of the New York chapter of the Villanova Finance Club.
