Al Wiegand played for the Wildcats from 1960-62 and was a catcher for teams that went a combined 44-17 during his collegiate career.  He played in 56 games and was a .273 career hitter with 47 runs scored and 45 runs batted in.  Among players whose careers ended before 1980 when the college baseball season expanded into a larger schedule, Wiegand ranks eighth in school history in RBI and 10th in runs scored.
 
Villanova advanced to the NCAA Region II playoffs in both 1960 and 1961.  The 1960 team went 15-5 overall, while the 1961 squad tallied a 17-4 record.  At the time, the 17 wins matched the most in a season for the Wildcats since 1928.
