A defensive back and a team co-captain his senior year, Steve Ebbecke played for the Wildcats from 1972-75 and was drafted by the Philadelphia Eagles. He graduated from Villanova in 1976 and was inducted to the Varsity Club Hall of Fame in 1976.

Ebbecke was described as a superior defensive player and a hard hitter during his career. He earned a varsity letter as a freshman in 1972 and would later be a team tri-captain in 1975 along with fellow future Hall of Famers Rick Aldrich and Steve Ramsey.

Despite playing during years when individual tackling statistics were not uniformly or consistently kept, Ebbecke nevertheless made a name for himself with his inspired play on the field. He tied for the team lead in interceptions during both the 1973 and 1975 seasons, including recording a career-high five picks as a sophomore on the 1973 team. He added three interceptions in 1974 and four in 1975 to eventually finish his career with 12 picks which he returned for a combined 148 yards.

Ebbecke was also a punt returner for Villanova and amassed 120 yards on 24 returns. He was chosen by the Philadelphia Eagles with the 358th overall pick in the 13th round of the 1976 NFL Draft.

Prior to his collegiate career, Ebbecke was an All-City and All-Public honoree at Frankford High School. He majored in Business Administration at Villanova and went on to start his own group of financial professionals, Stephen B. Ebbecke and Associates. He received the prestigious Lincoln Financial Group General Agency Channel ‘American Award’ for his distinguished reputation in business and the greater community.
