A standout guard who played under Hall of Fame coach Alex Bell during his career, Lou Morda shifted between offense and defense in his three varsity seasons. In the two years he spent on defense the Wildcats gave up an average of fewer than 10 points per game. Morda played for the Villanova varsity squad from 1964-66 and graduated in 1967. He was inducted to the Varsity Club Hall of Fame in 2002.

Morda began his varsity career in 1964 as a linebacker and was part of a defensive unit that allowed just 47 points the entire season. Villanova went 6-2 on the year and tallied shutout wins over Holy Cross, Detroit and Delaware. Only two opponents the entire season scored more than eight points on the Wildcats and the defense gave up an average of just 141.3 yards per game. Villanova ended the year with 27 turnovers forced and a plus-11 turnover margin.

After one year on the offensive line as a junior in 1965, Morda moved back to his familiar linebacker position his senior year. He had been part of the second line units in his first two seasons but had earned regular time with the first lines by the middle of his sophomore year. Morda was described as a hard hitter and sure tackler entering his senior year and he had a standout 1966 season.

Villanova went 6-3 in Bell’s final season as head coach in 1966 and allowed just 12.8 points per game on the year. Beginning with a 16-14 win over Delaware in the Homecoming Weekend game on October 15, the Wildcats won their final five games of the season and outscored the opposition by a 79-28 margin in those games.
