A standout player on some of the top teams in Villanova history, Walter Nowak was a two-time honorable mention All-American for the Wildcats before going on to play two games in the NFL. He was a member of the Villanova varsity squad from 1937-39 and graduated in 1940 with a degree in Education. Nowak was inducted to the Varsity Club Hall of Fame in 1982.

During his collegiate career Nowak played under Hall of Fame coach Maurice “Clipper” Smith and was a part of teams that were 22-2-2 (.885) during his varsity career. That included nearly all of the Wildcats program record 22-game unbeaten streak (19-0-3) which began in 1936 and spanned consecutive undefeated seasons of 8-0-1 in 1937 and 1938. Nowak was named an Associated Press honorable mention All-American for the 1938 and 1939 seasons. He was an All-East honorable mention pick in 1938 and an All-Pennsylvania second team selection in both 1938 and 1939.

Following his Villanova playing days Nowak played in two games for the Philadelphia Eagles in 1944 as an offensive lineman. He passed away in 1993 at the age of 78.
