Tina Conti was one of Villanova’s most accomplished offensive performers during her collegiate career and she became the second player in program history to earn NSCAA All-America honors when she garnered second team acclaim as a junior in 1990. She played for the Wildcats from 1988-91 and was inducted to the Varsity Club Hall of Fame in 2015.

At the time of her graduation Conti was Villanova’s all-time career leader with 27 assists. She ranked fourth in school history with 27 goals and 81 points while sitting third in the Wildcats record book with 179 shots taken. Her consistency was as impressive as her scoring potential, as Conti tallied three consecutive seasons with at least 20 points. She was a two-time first team All-Northeast Region honoree as a sophomore and a junior to go along with her junior year All-America accolades.

Villanova was a team in transition when Conti arrived on campus. As a program the Wildcats were beginning their sixth varsity season in 1988 and had found their footing with five straight double-digit win campaigns and four years with a winning record. Conti’s first collegiate season overlapped with the senior years of two of Villanova’s early stars in future Hall of Famers Ann Beirne (Class of 2009) and Jean Hajjar (Class of 2011).

Conti made a quick adjustment to the college game and compiled five goals, four assists and 14 points in 1988 as the Wildcats tallied a 7-7-4 record. She followed up that season with a 20-point campaign in 1989 which included seven goals scored and six assists. That performance earned Conti her first all-region nod, and she built on its potential with 22 points (seven goals, eight assists) as a junior. Villanova dipped below .500 in both 1989 and 1990 before rebounding to go 9-7-2 when Conti was a senior in 1991.

She had her best season as a senior with eight goals, nine assists and 25 points to lead a resurgent Wildcats offense. Villanova increased its goal output by nearly 20 percent from the 1990 to 1991 seasons and showcased its capabilities with a 7-1-1 midseason stretch during which the team scored five or more goals three times in a four-game span.
