A standout tackle who was named to the ECAC first team offense his senior year, Joe Miller was a Baltimore native who starred for the Wildcats and was selected in the NFL Draft. He played for the Villanova varsity squad from 1971-73 and is a member of the Class of 1973. Miller was inducted to the Varsity Club Hall of Fame in 2010.

In his first varsity season Miller started out as a defensive tackle under second year head coach and Villanova Hall of Famer Lou Ferry. He made a quick impact on the team and was part of a defense that gave up just 14.0 points per game. The Wildcats went 6-4-1 on the year and held five of their 11 opponents to 10 or fewer points. Notable road wins during the season came against Maryland, Xavier and Dayton. The defense forced 41 turnovers and averaged 3.7 turnovers gained per game while finishing the year at plus-three in turnover margin.

Miller was moved to offensive tackle prior to the 1972 season, and he would be named to the ECAC weekly all-star team three times during the season. By his senior year in 1973, Miller was a Villanova co-captain and was known for being a fierce competitor on the field. He was described as having the size, strength and ability to be a professional prospect and was cited for his excellent hitting ability.

After being named to the ECAC first team offense for the 1973 season, Miller was selected by Washington with the 282nd overall pick in the 11th round of the 1974 NFL Draft. His outstanding collegiate career began after Miller was a Maryland all-state selection and Honor Roll student at Baltimore City High School during his scholastic career.
