Charles McGuckin was an outfielder for Villanova from 1952-54 and was a 1989 inductee to the Varsity Club Hall of Fame.  The baseball team went 33-20-2 (.618) during his years on the team and played in the NCAA Region II playoffs in both 1952 and 1953.  Those were the first two postseason appearances in program history, and the Wildcats defeated St. John’s in its first game in the 1952 playoffs.  Following his Villanova playing days, McGuckin played in the Chicago Cubs minor league system during the 1954 and 1955 seasons.

In addition to his baseball career, McGuckin was a volunteer team manager for the Wildcats football team during his senior year.  When the team’s starting quarterback was injured that season, McGuckin was asked to become the starting quarterback as a result of already knowing the team’s plays.

Following the end of his professional baseball career, McGuckin became the head baseball and football coach at Chaminade (N.Y.) High School.  He was later the athletic director and head football coach at Holy Family High School and had a similar position at Half Hollow Hills High School.  McGuckin also spent time as a scout for the New York Jets.
