Frank Kreutzer is a 1961 graduate of Villanova and was inducted to the Varsity Club Hall of Fame in 1993.  He pitched for the Wildcats during the 1959 and 1960 seasons, and was one of the most prolific strikeout pitchers in school history despite appearing in just those two years.  Kreutzer later went on to pitch for parts of six seasons in the major leagues.

During his collegiate career, Kreutzer made 22 appearances on the mound for Villanova and logged 138 1/3 innings while racking up 189 strikeouts and just 102 hits allowed.  He averaged a school-record 12.3 strikeouts per nine innings and went 10-3 with a 2.86 ERA.  Kreutzer made 13 appearances and had six complete games in 1960, when he went 6-1 with a 2.89 ERA, 112 strikeouts and just 64 hits allowed in 84.0 innings.

Kreutzer’s 112 strikeouts in 1960 rank second in school history for a single season, trailing only the total of 113 that his teammate Phil Fidalgo had that same season.  Kreutzer is also tied for 15th in school history with his 84.0 innings pitched in 1960, while his 1.202 WHIP that season is 17th in the school record book through the end of the 2018 season.

Among players who finished their collegiate careers before 1980 and thus played in far fewer games per season, Kreutzer is ranked second in career strikeouts and WHIP (1.149), third in ERA and fifth in both innings pitched and victories.

Kreutzer appeared in 78 games with 32 starts in the major leagues, pitching for the Chicago White Sox and Washington Senators.  He logged 210 2/3 innings and had 151 strikeouts in the majors, while recording eight wins and a save.  While pitching for the Senators in 1965, he pitched a three-hit shutout with 10 strikeouts against the Detroit Tigers and also hit a two-run home run in a 6-0 victory.  Aside from his major league totals, Kreutzer made 151 appearances over parts of seven seasons in the minor leagues and had 54 victories while recording 641 strikeouts in 891.0 innings pitched.
