A native of Berwyn, Pa. who transferred to Villanova after playing two seasons at South Carolina, Dan Driscoll converted from tight end to linebacker in his two seasons playing for the Wildcats in 1976 and 1977. He is a member of the Class of 1980 and was inducted to the Varsity Club Hall of Fame in 2002.

Driscoll gained the notice of his coaches for being a quick study when he was moved to linebacker prior to the 1976 season. His aggressiveness attacking the ball carrier was the reason he was chosen to play linebacker and he responded with 164 tackles to go along with an interception, a pass breakup, a fumble recovery and a blocked kick in his first year with the Wildcats. The team went 6-4-1 under head coach Dick Bedesem and notched notable victories over Dayton, Youngstown State, Boston College and Temple.

As a senior in 1977, Driscoll had an even better season. He recorded 185 tackles, including 12 solo stops, and tied for the team lead with four interceptions which he returned for a combined 69 yards. Driscoll also had four pass breakups and a fumble recovery during the year. His 185 tackles in 1977 are the second-most in a single season in school history, while his 164 total stops a year earlier rank sixth in the Villanova record book. During Driscoll’s two seasons on the roster, the Wildcats defense held 12 of 22 opponents to 20 or fewer points.
