The first scholarship athlete for Villanova softball, Tina Sabunas threw four no-hitters in her VU career and was named the 1996 ECAC Championship MVP after leading the program to new heights. Sabunas was heralded by former head coach Maria DiBernardi as "directly responsible for catapulting our program to a new level. Tina was the pioneer of many successful seasons to come for Villanova Softball. We were extremely lucky to have her in our program as she was highly recruited by some of the top teams in the nation!" A 1995 First Team All-BIG EAST and 1994 Second Team All-BIG EAST honoree, Sabunas remains the all-time leader in WHIP (0.86) and fewest walks per seven (0.77). She managed 24.2 consecutive scoreless innings in 94 and 23.0 in 95, picking up a pair of Pitcher of the Week laurels during that 1995 campaign. Inducted to the Varsity Club Hall of Fame in 2014, the New Jersey native sits in Villanova's all-time top three for innings pitched (698.1), ERA (1.41), games started (112), complete games (54) and wins (64).
