Playing at both catcher and in the outfield, Sara Carlson was the first All-American in Villanova Softball history and is still just one of two All-Americans the program has produced. She became the first of three Wildcats in team history to hit three doubles in a game. The four-time NGCA Northeast All-Region selection still leads the program for intentional walks in both a career and season, while sitting in the top-five in both distinctions for batting average (3rd/2nd), slugging percentage (3rd/2nd), on-base percentage (4th/4th), OPS (4th/2nd) and doubles (4th/T-4th). A .382 hitter as a Wildcat with 148 RBI and a .600 career slugging percentage, she helped Villanova reach the championship game of the BIG EAST Tournament in 2003 and was named the Academic All-American of the Year out of all Division I student-athletes as a sophomore during the 2000-01 campaign.
