Richard Aldrich was a linebacker for the Wildcats from 1972-75 and a two-year captain his junior and senior years. He majored in Criminology at Villanova and graduated from the University in 1976. He was inducted to the Varsity Club Hall of Fame in 1999.

Aldrich was a starter on defense for most of his sophomore season in 1973 but was unable to play during the 1974 season. He was a senior in 1975 when Richard Bedesem was in his first year as the Wildcats head coach. Bedesem noted before the season that “everybody tells me not to overlook Ricky. For his size he could be the finest football player on the team.”

In addition to being Villanova’s second-leading tackler, Aldrich recorded three career interceptions which he returned for a total of 32 yards. He stated that the most memorable moment of his collegiate career came as a sophomore in 1973 when returned a blocked punt for a touchdown against Xavier.
